Clark County Fair Court: A 20 Year Tradition

The late William V “Bill” Jones started the Clark County Fair Court in 1986. Mr. Jones was a member of the Clark County Fair Board for many years. Bill felt the young ladies of Clark County would be valuable ambassadors to promote the fair year round. Bill contributed his enthusiastic expertise to achieve the vision of the Clark County Fair Equestrian Queen’s Court. He also coordinated the support of the Wooden Indian. The court rode in many county parades and festivals.

In 1993 the court realized another portion of Bill’s vision. Bill had always wanted to see the Court in the Portland Grand Floral Rose Parade. This milestone was achieved by a can-do court, seamstress and generous county wide sponsors.

In December of 1995, Bill passed away and the court lost a very important part of the team. In June of 1996, the court brought to Clark County the prize Bill knew the court could achieve, The Best Rodeo or Fair Court in the Grand Floral Rose Parade.

Whether Bill was reciting his poetry in the arena before a court appearance or gearing up for a parade, his integrity and spirit shinned through. Mr. Jones was a gentleman and treated everyone with respect.

Bill would be so very proud of all the tryout participants for 2007. Every tryout he would beam with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.  He felt just as much excitement as you are feeling right now.

Bill’s goal was to give the ladies of Clark County the opportunity to travel and promote a fantastic fair. For 20 years now, the Clark County Fair Equestrian Queen’s Court has embodied the true vision of one terrific citizen of Clark County!
